Clover is my favorite too, tied with xxxHOLiC and Tokyo Babylon!

Aw yeah Clover. Not only was it the prettiest CLAMP series I've ever read, it's the best-looking manga I have ever read.

YES RG VEDA is my favorite too.

I'll lose and say that the only way they'll get me to read them again is if they finish X.
Also also, Doumeki/Watanuki was my first m/m OTP.

They'll never finish it, kid. It's dead. Forget that you ever read it. Convince yourself that it was really pretty lame, anyway.

One of my first thoughts after I heard the news was "Madoka will be the new X"

You know, the whole point of this thread was to have a CLAMP discussion without reverting back to the question of "Why don't they finish X?"

I really wish(harharhar) that Wish got a English language rerelease, because I borrowed the series from a classmate a couple years ago and it's really gorgeous. I do have the last volume in Japanese though, so I could at least look at the art and have all of my feeling from that series come back to me.

Also, has anyone else read Suki? I got the entire series a few years ago at a con and loved it, but I know it wasn't very successful over here. I'm planning on rereading it soon.

Wish did get an English-language release! You can get all four volumes on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Wish-Vol-1-v-2/dp/B0046LUVOO/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1351725615&sr=1-1&keywords=Wish).

I haven't read Suki yet -- what would you recommend about it? I have all of the illustrations for the series in CLAMP's "South Side" artbook, and it's interesting how different it is from all of their other works.

My personal headcanon states that Watanuki Doumeki and Himawari lead a happy threesomy life. Less angst, more porn, more domestic fluff. Might be completed with having a reincarnated baby Yuuko.

Isn't Yuuko perma-dead now, though? Kind of weird for her to reincarnate after she waited so long to die.

They did Chobits I guess, which was aight bar a few unpleasant implications. The episode with the guy who marries the robot who gets alzheimers was probably it's peak.

And the character design for Code Geass? Which was, unique.

That's my total Clamp exposure. What of theirs is really worth watching?

They're comic book artists, so you can't really "watch" their works! /nitpicking

Cardcaptor Sakura is still very popular, even though it finished serialization in 2000. It's a magical girl series, but it takes the "magic" seriously (it's a blend of Chinese and English occult practices) and the characters are all charming and interesting in their own way. The main draw of the series is its many different varieties of "love," and how the protagonist comes to understand and accept them all.

The anime adaptation of CCS is also very good -- depending on whom you ask, it's either the best or the only good anime adaptation of CLAMP's works.

Kobato. is a similarly light and optimistic series on the surface, but it scrapes up against some human cruelties (angry divorces, loansharks, unrequited love, and the "unfairness" of death). You'll either love or dislike the protagonist: Kobato is beautiful, kind-hearted, somewhat foolish, and relentlessly positive, and I've seen some fans get irritated by that. She's been given a mission by Heaven to heal other people's wounded hearts in order to fulfill her own wish, and she's accompanied by a demon who has been forced to assume the form of a small toy dog.

The anime adaption is very recent and very well-animated, but it really flattens Kobato's character.

Gate 7 is CLAMP's most recent series, and it's still in the opening stages of its serialization. It's basically "another Sengoku manga," but the twist is that the warlords have been reincarnated into modern-day Kyoto and are attempting to wage war against each other in the shadows of contemporary society. It's in many respects a love-song to Kyoto, and the artwork is overall excellent -- CLAMP puts in a lot of small details that you don't notice during your first read-through, such as small non-verbal interactions between the characters. It's subtle.

Clover is an older work, but it's visually remarkable! Nanase Ohkawa, the head writer of CLAMP, said in an interview that she wanted each page to be a "separate work of art," and it really shows. The setting is also very intriguing, and the protagonist is unusual among CLAMP works for being a retired military officer in his thirties. An animated music video was released for the series, and you can watch it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01xbvbbSyvc&feature=related).

I recommend that you don't read X, since it stopped serialization on a horrible cliffhanger (almost literally) and most likely will never be resumed. I'd also recommend that you don't read xxxHOLiC, even though it represents some of CLAMP's most superb artwork, lore, and character development: the ending is just that bad.

Magic Knight Rayearth is worth watching. Definitely.
And Angelic Layer as well but MKR is my favorite anime of all time so I'm always rooting for it first and foremost.

I think the only Clamp manga I really liked was Shirahime Syo. I bought the manga in its original form because I thought the art was so beautiful.

The stories within were pretentious and dramarific though, lol.

So there's a Tumblr party going on under the CLAMP tag right now, and the fans there have unanimously come to the conclusion that out of (multiple and graphic) beheadings, (multiple and graphic) eye removal, (multiple and tragic) deaths of parental figures, (multiple and tragic) deaths of twin siblings, and (multiple, tragic, and sometimes graphic) partings of lovers, the most horrifying thing ever to come from the CLAMP name is the X movie.
