Ebay Selling Tips?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-31 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
My computer is dying and I want a new one. It's gonna take several months for me to save up, and part of the money should be coming from me selling off some old (some author-autographed) books and collectibles.

So please F!S, tell me what would make you interested in an item on ebay -- I mean, like, would you be more likely to go after a lot than a single item, even if you really don't need everything in the lot? Would you be more likely to purchase something right away if it had a short listing time? Or would you be prefer having a week or so to think it over (or would that probably make you pass on the item)? Should I risk starting out on a rock-bottom price in hopes it will entice a lot of bidders? Any other kind of ebay-selling tips you can pass on to me would be really helpful! Thanks.

For me, I wouldn't bid on a lot at all if I only wanted one or two items from it. I'm personally more likely to go after an item with a week or a little longer as the time limit--with any less than that I feel rushed and pass; with any longer than that I put the item on my watch list and forget about it. From my personal selling experience, I would suggest that you comparison shop for the items you're listing and provide a "Buy it now" option for the highest price (or combined price, if you do make a lot) anyone else has listed it for, then start the bidding at about 1/2 to 3/4ths of that.

What are you selling? *likes old books* Ebay name?

Personally I prefer things to be sold individually (as sometimes I just want one, and not 4 in a series) - but I like the option if the seller gives discount postage if you buy multiple items. Because then I'll check out the rest of your stuff and probably buy more

Longer time = better because I can think on it, I have more time to find it and you have more time for other people to find it.

Don't colour clash with your description. Be as descriptive as possible about the condition of the books/stuff. No chat speak. Try to sound happy and polite (as much as you can with words)

At least one quality photo (well lit, close up, not blurry) comprehensive description (including any wear/marks/flaws/etc), clear shipping policy (where you're prepared to ship to, how much, how it'll be packaged and if you offer insurance).

Personally I prefer a Buy It Now, and will choose to pay a reasonable BIN price over faffing about bidding on what might be a potential bargin.
