Nope. He's just this guy who writes good television, and occasionally great television. Even the worst Dr. Who is substantially better than just about anything else available.

You do realise that 'even a bad episode of [x] is better than anything else available' is an idiotic and meaningless thing to say?

Well, if you're going to use quotation marks, you might as well actually quote. Changing that modifier radically changes the meaning.

But yes, I'll stand by the statement I actually wrote. The worst Dr. Who has to offer is still pretty damn good compared the vast majority of television that seems to go out over the wire these day. I'd rather re-watch "Journey's End, the incomprehensible mess that threw everything and the kitchen sink into a script and added Jackie Tyler as the desert, than anything I see on the broadcast schedule for the next few days. (Formula comedy, formula crime drama, formula "reality," and just for Halloween, a John Carpenter film chopped up into tiny bits for commercial breaks.)

Eeeeeyup. Highly flawed TV with actual flair and emotion >>> slick, tight, competently-executed but mindnumbingly meaningless formula any day of the week.

It's a subjective thing to say, and a statement I expect I would disagree with whatever you put in for [x], but it has a meaning and it's not necessarily idiotic, just opinionated.
