(Anonymous) 2012-10-31 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)And it really, really, REALLY pissed me off that Goldie specifically said "Next time that happens I'll say something" and then the grandmother tells them their kid should be rescued by child protective services AND THEN SHE DOESN'T DO ANYTHING! That line just about drove me to tears and then OH LOL wasn't that cute and funny let's just have a nice family dinner like she didn't just say something mindblowingly hurtful.
It seemed like there was supposed to be some difference between the grandmother and the man in the store, but there isn't.
I usually watch at least 4 or 5 episodes before I judge something unwatchable, so I'll give it another chance (if only because I don't see how it could get any more offensive) but I am extremely unimpressed so far.
Though, I don't get what OP means about obviously terrible premise. I thought it had a great premise, until I actually saw the pilot and saw that they inexplicably made one of the guys a stereotype and made that grandmother, well ... exist.

A lot of messed up shit happens, more often than not it's apparently not acknowledged by the writers, or comes from the gay characters themselves, and it just hurts and makes me thing of internalization and my own unhealthy thought processes, but that's why I watch it.
