Trick-or-treating

[personal profile] streetcake 2012-11-01 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'm handing out candy this year and I sort of feel cheated by any of the kids who come to the door without costumes. Like, part of the fun is seeing all the cute kids in costumes and their payment is candy.

I kinda want to be petty and give the non-dressed kids the less tasty candy out of spite(I'm not actually gonna do that).

Saw this earlier:

"With Halloween upon us, please keep in mind, a lot of little people will be visiting your home. Be accepting. The child who is grabbing more than one piece of candy may have poor fine motor skills. The child who takes forever to pick out one piece of candy may have motor planning issues. The child who does not say trick or treat or thank you may be non-verbal. The child who looks disappointed when they see your bowl might have an allergy. The child who isn't wearing a costume at all might have a sensory issue (SPD) or autism. Be nice. Be patient. Its everyone's Halloween. :)

Aww. Truthfully I'm okay with it, I wouldn't want to assume anything.

You're a sweetie. And truthfully if I hadn't seen that just this morning I'd be thinking less charitable thoughts as well (not taking action, just thinking!) but now I'm all guilty feeling and just want to give candy to everyone I see.

I saw this on facebook the other day and was just about to go looking for it again, so I'm glad you posted it.

My mother always asks "what are you?" if she can't identify a costume right off the bat. She always makes sure to ask the trick-or-treaters who aren't dressed as anything. Usually they are teenagers who are technically too old to trick-or-treat anyway, because the younger kids love to get dressed up.

Random: I haven't handed out candy in years because I live in an apartment and no one goes there. I miss it. :(

OT: Firefox red-underlined "trick-or-treaters" and suggested:

trick-or-theaters
trick-or-tr eaters
trick-or-tr-eaters
trick-or-treasurers
trick-or-anteaters

I'm surprised trick-or-tree-eaters isn't on there.

My apartment does a thing where everyone can sign up and the kids get a list of apartments to go to. It makes me excited cause I still get to see the kiddies.

TBH, I'd have no problem giving a non-costumed teenager a handful of Smarties.

I kind of side-eye older teenagers who trick or treat. They should be handing out candy or at a costume party or something.

Maybe they don't have a party to go to. :(

I kinda wish I'd rebelled a bit more and gone trick-or-treating when I was a teenager, simply because I wasn't allowed to go trick-or-treating for several years when I was younger because I had braces. My parents' rule was that since I couldn't eat any of the candy, I couldn't go out. Then I got my braces off at twelve, got to go that year, and then was told the following year "thirteen was too old to go trick-or-treating."

/vent

Ah well. Now I'm an adult and can go buy ALL THE CANDY I EVER WANTED and roll around in it.

I don't, either. We used to go up to my mom's house and trick-or-treat with all the uncles/aunts/cousins and i'd stay with my mom to hand out candy (she has a bad knee and stairs).

I wore my neat black dress and witch hat. Now - neat black dress is black chiffon or something pretty see-through, with a nude sheathe under it. It looks a little like *i* am nude, though only at a glance.

I about died laughing when some mid-teen boys came to the door, goggled at me, and then came *back* half an hour later with friends and, as they were walking down the drive, were going 'did you see? i told you!!'

I assume they thought i was nude - gave 'em a thrill! My mom and i had a good laugh.

Related somewhat, I've seen like four little girls tonight dressed as pink batman, and one pink batman sister with her little batman brother. I'm good now. ;u;

No kids came to my door. I had candy and everything /disappointed*

*in Australia, so I wasn't really expecting any...but damnit I was hoping for some enterprising teens or something!

Aww, I'm sorry. :( I was worried I might not get any trick-or-treaters tonight, so I'll be grateful I got so many.

another Australian here and I didn't get any either! :'( I really wish that Halloween was as much of a big deal here as it is overseas, in America it seems to be like some kind of nationwide party...

If young kids come to my door with no costume, I assume it's under their snowsuit or they're going as brave adventurers in the cold. If older kids/university students come to my door, I will give them candy if they're in costume, but if they're not they have to do a trick. I always suggest a handstand.

We don't get trick or treat until Friday, thanks to weather. And our city wasn't even hit particularly hard.

I partied last weekend, planned on staying in, watching Nightmare Before Christmas, and handing out candy - which I've never done - tonight. Only four kids showed up! Maybe the weather kept most away, or they went to those Trunk-or-Treat things.

Fine. MORE FOR ME.

Hehe. Ah, well. We got no kids, as usual. Hopefully when the sidewalk project is finally done, we'll get some next year.

We didn't get many costumed kids last night, but it was cold and windy and rainy (we got the edges of Sandy yesterday) I didn't mind as much as I would if it were more pleasant. I'd rather not see kids shivering on my doorstep.
