It would be really nice if more people on television were. It would also be really nice if more of them were a little more ambiguous instead of assumed to be straight.

With the above example, there's no reason to assume Beverly is saying she's straight. She says she can't cope with her lover changing bodies so often, which is not saying 'I can't be with you because I'm straight".

I get your frustration, but actually, I think the entire point of that episode had to be "BEVERLY'S HETEROSEXUAL, Y'ALL." At least from what I can remember.

Why though? Why can't it be just left ambiguous? (mostly why can't there be the possibility that my heroes are the smallest bit like me...)

I can see it as a valid sci-fi concept for storytelling. It could just as easily have gone the other way, of course, as you say.

Question: Would Worf have loved Dax in a male body, too? That wasn't done, was it? I'm not a big DS9 fan so I don't know.

There's a DS9 ep where one of Dax's former lovers (who also has a symbiont) is in a female body and she and Jadzia Dax (who had been male in their relationship) had an affair and it was great. They weren't supposed to be together because of (DS9-era) Trill taboos about former lovers but it was a great episode with a kiss between two women, which was pretty controversial at the time.

I love the idea in "the Host" of attraction transcending physical bodies and that Beverly decided she'd have enough of that type of relationship, not that she was straight.

Worf and a male Dax would have been fantastic.

Yeah, I remember that kiss now. And to think, Buffy with Willow wouldn't be too terribly long after it...
