My former roommate and her boyfriend fostered pit bulls and pit bull mixes, and each of them were some of the the happiest, loving-est dogs I've met.
One of them (who I think has pretty much turned into a forever dog) was likely used as a bait dog prior to being rescued, which is definitely sad, but now he's just... so freaking adorable. He does this little dance when he's about to be fed, and he's almost always grinning.
Actually, I think most of the dogs they fostered had been in terrible situations before-hand, but there are people out there who fight for these dogs and rescue them and give them loving homes and the dogs are just so fucking HAPPY after.
There's nothing like watching a herd pack of pitties gallumphing merrily down the hall because roommate or her boyfriend was home and the dogs wanted to say hello. :)
