I know it was upsetting and sad, but you're missing the point. Kid!Loki will have won, as soon as someone else needs a villian with a horned helmet, because he's right when he says "They won't let you." Writers, readers, Marvel won't let Loki chance because he's always been the villian

That is, of course, until writers won't let the kid win and make the change happen. It's all up to us, in the end.

The kid deserved better, yes, but he went to his death being brave and selfless, and I'm happy that he was able to be what he always hoped he would be.

Some stories don't need a happy end to be good stories.
