Notes:

To the anon that wanted warnings on .gif secrets: I'm not sure how I could effectively implement that. For triggery or spoilery secrets, one could just not read the text, but for .gifs by the time you get to the warning, it's already moving in your field of vision. If you have a suggestion as to how it could be done without just linking the secret (it's not breaking any rules or containing porn or gore, so that wouldn't be fair), let me know. Putting it in the notes for now.

16 is a .gif, by the way.

Hahahahahahaha. Triggered by someone talking about not getting homework done in time? That's something you laugh off, not something you stress about. Because seriously?

I am so triggered by your picture of a gun which has a trigger on it...

But Bruce Willis makes everything better so carry on.

Now that's what I call being triggered by a trigger! XD

I have generalized anxiety disorder. I have definitely gotten very anxious over not getting homework done. I would sometimes get paralyzed with fear over completing an assignment in time, which would eat up time before a deadline. Sometimes it gave me migraines and nausea. So I would disagree that it's something to laugh off, but never in a million years would I say it's a "trigger". The experience is awful, but just reading about it isn't triggering the way people who have experienced actual traumas are!

Well, that's understandable if it's something that causes you anxiety. But, would you jump all over someone for mentioning something as innocent as "Oh, gosh. I just need to finish this assignment, like yesterday!"? Because if someone jumped on me for that I sure as hell would laugh.

Trigger doesn't really mean "something that causes flashback to trauma". It's just something that changes your mind frame, typically in a negative way (though, depending on the disorder, you can be triggered into mania). Stress is a very common trigger with mental disorders, so homework could certainly be the last straw on a very stressful week that throws someone into full-blown depression or a panic attack. Having it mentioned on the Internet, though? That's bullshit.

I still have nightmares about not having homework done on time and it's been 15 years since I've had any homework! Not that it's a trigger, and while I'm awake I know it's stupid, but every few months BAM panicky school dream out of nowhere. Fuck knows what's going on in my subconcious.

One of the best things I ever did was quit my first job because it was such an unhealthy environment (modelling). Everything was smoking, diuretics, and puking. I wish I was exaggerating. I've developed such an adverse reaction to vomit that even typing those two words or hearing a character do it off-screen makes me feel so sick I almost do it. But I am a mature, responsible person who can get over the small stuff, and it's getting better over time. It'll get better for you, too, anon.

I do too; I think it's a really common recurring theme in nightmares. Or I keep forgetting my schedule and missing classes, or I forget where my locker or my dorm room is, or I'm wearing my sweaty gym clothes and all the stuff I need for my next class is in my gym locker, but I've forgotten the combination. Stupid school anxiety dreams.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
I apparently have this extreme terror of blowing off class in my dreams.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha oh wow I thought I was the only one that did this. I have this recurring dream that all of a sudden it's the end of the semester and I've forgotten to go to any of my classes. *facepalm* And it's been well over ten years since I was in college.

I had nightmares about projects being due for high school when I was in college. I still occasionally have nightmares about college now, where it's like "what is this job thing? That's not an excuse, you have a thesis due next week!"

Always so nice to wake up from those... haha.
