Notes:

To the anon that wanted warnings on .gif secrets: I'm not sure how I could effectively implement that. For triggery or spoilery secrets, one could just not read the text, but for .gifs by the time you get to the warning, it's already moving in your field of vision. If you have a suggestion as to how it could be done without just linking the secret (it's not breaking any rules or containing porn or gore, so that wouldn't be fair), let me know. Putting it in the notes for now.

16 is a .gif, by the way.

What you say sounds about right. I believe good is complicated when you think about it. If they're deciding to be good in a world where people normally aren't then they are different and complex somehow.

But as you said, even if they're uncomplicated that doesn't mean they're boring.

(Yes he is. Alistair too. Though I don't know if he got the accusations or not.)

Yea! I think sometimes being good can be harder than being bad. And it often doesn't have the same benefits either. Especially in video game land, where if you play an evil character you often get more money and better stuff, and generally things tend to be easier for you game-play wise. Where-as the good characters usually have to go the extra mile or find a different solution that takes more effort.

(With Alistair it's usually more about how 'whiny' he is. But I've heard people call him boring as well.)

Yeah, video games really make you work most of the time if you want to be a good person.

Actually, that's why I liked Mass Effect. I felt both Renegade and Paragon had to work equally to get to the end.

(Oh yeah, the whiny thing. How could I forget? I must have blocked it out.)

ME did a wonderful job with making both Renegade and Paragon awesome, fun options, and making them both feel very viable and realistic as well. At least until 3...can't comment on that because I only played the game once (as a Paragon), but some of the Renegade options seemed less 'I'm doing this because it has to be done' and more '*evil cackle*'. Maybe I'm wrong though.

/ME rant, idek, ignore me.

Yeah, no, I get what you mean, don't worry. I can't speak about ME3 though because I'm currently making my way through 2... five times. (One for each of my Shepard's) Also, I've had to restart three times on one Shepard because Kelly won't feed my fish.

Yes, I restart games for stupid things.

But yeah, in ME and ME2 I truly enjoy that I'm not held back by choosing to be Paragon, Renegade, or Paragade. Okay, ME2 is bad with Paragade people but I used the morality glitch so it's cool.

Of course, because we have the freedom to do good or bad without much work I end up hating my Renegade play through. I can take my equally Paragade runs but my full Renegade makes me feel like such a horrible person sometimes. I feel so bad about some of that stuff.

Oh, five times! I completed ME five times, ME2 three times, but have play-throughs for all five of my Shepard's in ME2 as well. Haven't finished the other two after ME3...had no desire to for a good while there, and now no time for it.

Damn Kelly! Have you looked up what specific things you need to do to get her to feed your fish? If not, I'd suggest it. Or maybe it's a glitch. :/ Either way: gah!

Yea, ME2 isn't kind to people who want to play both fields, but there are ways around it. On my Paragade run I mostly stuck to Paragon but indulged in Renegade occasionally, which is pretty much what I want to do most times anyway.

A lot of the Renegade stuff is...kinda understandable? Like, I don't necessarily endorse it, but I've played a Renegade character that felt more no-nonsense and cautious than evil. But some of the stuff...like that one option to tell Jack she's a killing machine and nothing more, that I could never do in any play-through. That stuff is just awful and I can't find any way to justify that if you aren't playing a mustache twirling villain.

I have the patience to do it and it seems you do too. But yeah, I heard about the ending. I understand your reluctance. And I don't have time right now either. It's why I'm still on my first play through.

I have googled the crap out of Kelly. As far as I know I should be able to have the conversation by the time I recruit Samara, my last teammate. Now, there is a quote from a Bioware ME2 developer saying that they left Kelly open to feeding your fish if you friend her or romance her. This is a lie. I know because I tried. People blindly took the developer's word but the only success stories and my own frustration have proven that it has to be romantic. Not only does it have to be romantic, in the second conversation when she makes a romance check you have to affirm that yes, it's a romance, or you will be set back on friendship and fail. Now I'm testing how much I have to flirt while on the romance track. It's annoying but once I have the formula I'll be able to do it quickly for all of my characters.

/End Kelly rant. Sorry about that.

Ha~ Yeah, I understand that feeling. I did that once in ME. Doing good things but giving lip when Udina people deserve it. For me, I just did the morality glitch so I wouldn't have to worry and I could just do whatever I want. I don't mind be restricted in game play but I only like being restricted in story if I made a bad choice, not because of some arbitrary bar.

Oh no, it's understandable and that's why I can play a Renegade at all. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to stomach it. But I agree, that other stuff? I just don't like being so mean, even if it's to a bunch of pixels. The whole point of a good story for me is to become emotionally attached to not only the story but the characters too. So to do that kind of stuff really makes me squeamish.
