To the anon that wanted warnings on .gif secrets: I'm not sure how I could effectively implement that. For triggery or spoilery secrets, one could just not read the text, but for .gifs by the time you get to the warning, it's already moving in your field of vision. If you have a suggestion as to how it could be done without just linking the secret (it's not breaking any rules or containing porn or gore, so that wouldn't be fair), let me know. For me, it depends on the type of game. If it's a totally voiced, story-based game with no plot choices, it doesn't matter that much what the gender is. If it's a story JRPG where you dont get to create or customize your character's looks or personality, gender doesn't matter much.

But for me, with RPGs with a lot of character choice, for example, it's just not as fun when I'm forced to be a dude. Sometimes I want to play me, silly and self-indulgent as that is. In those cases, I'd be a little bitter (personally) spending a bunch of time customizing a male character with an awesome customization system when I'd rather be playing a female character.

But, usually I'm not playing games to play me. I view it from the mindset of acting or smthng - another hobby of mine. I'm playing, and crafting, a character (this goes beyond what the game actually allows you to do, and includes all the headcanon i at least build, all the extra significance i might attach to one choice, i might read my characters lines of dialogue aloud to have fun giving them expression and nuance to distinguish my character (in my mind) from everyone else picking similar choices. its a fun slightly creative thing, and just like acting, i cant really play someone of another gender or race. sexuality, yeah. personally? totally! thats the whole point! weight? hell, i could gain or lose it. but race or gender, idk, it just doesnt work in acting and cause i have fun with many games in a similar way creating characters, those games just dont work for me when im forced to be a white dude.
