Well, sure, but the mysteries were still fun, and they weren't ALL wrong.

This is where ignorance is bliss. I cared less about the shipping and I enjoyed the crazy puzzles myself (also I enjoyed watching House be an ass).

So long as no one is trying to intubate based on having watched too many episodes of House, I'm okay with some of the medical fudging... not that I could tell you what they were fudging anyway (I have friends in the medical field that can't watch it - but I got a Spanish degree sooooo yay!)

You and most people watching the show, I bet.

Lucky. I wish I could go into something without shipping.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I could go into something WITH shipping. Because I just don't get the whole shipping thing at all and I'm absolutely indifferent to love in general. I've never even been in love myself. I don't even sympathize with canon pairings, no matter whether I like the characters or not.

There's so much fun going in the shipping part of fandom, lots of fic, everyone loves to read shipping stuff, and I'm left with bromance works (which I love, but I'd rather like to be a part of more active fan communities).

honestly, when i was watching this show? i was 100% in it for the medical mysteries, flawed or not. they'd be having moments of significant character interaction or deep introspective scenes and i'd be like "COME ON, GET BACK TO THE GUY WHO PASSES OUT WHEN HE DRINKS WATER"

me too! I hated when they got too into the character development.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, kinda the reason it was never lupus on the show is because in real life, it often is. Makes for boring tv to have an everyday problem pop up.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think at least once it *was* lupus? (I'm thinking of the Magician guy...)

(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, Anon. I watch all procedurals for the procedure. ALL OF THEM. When their overarching character plots start getting in the way I loose interest.

Pretty much. I always got irritated and bored when we got too much 'personal story time' on the Law & Order shows or on House.

That's why I like shows like Mystery Diagnosis and Dr. G. It's really all about the medical part.

Try going over to www.politedissent.com - the blog author talks about how correct (or mistaken) the medical parts of House are. (Also Fringe and one or two other shows.) It's quite fun.

I have read Polite Dissent in the past but I haven't been there for a while. I should look up some of the season 7 and 8 eps that I haven't looked up there. You're right, it really is fun and educational too.

(Edited because I posted logged in! I am so brilliant. At least it wasn't a particularly offensive secret.)

I love Polite Dissent. I didn't realize they were covering other shows now too! *scampers off to get lost in hours of review reading for shoes she's probably never even watched*

I can't stop reading that first line to the tune of KC & the Sunshine Band's - Get Down Tonight.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Do a little shippin',
Write a little fic,
Get fandom tonight,
Get fandom tonight.

[personal profile] gamma_orionis 2012-11-04 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. I didn't actually like the shipping or the fandom or the characters much at all - I just liked the creative medical scenarios and Hugh Laurie being snarky. I actually kinda wish that the show had only done that and not done any plot arcs...

I had to stop watching as the mistakes drove me crazy. I work in a hospital, and they did stories on my specialty a few times, and they were just awful. They didn't even make sense.

But the thing that really put me off and made me stop watching for good, was when they had a young woman who had been sexually abused by her father but House blamed her, said she had seduced him, and this was because she had Turner's syndrome, and he called her "him". It was just so vile and appalling, and there was no questioning or disapproving of this attitude.

this is me with supernatural

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
With the exception of me casually shipping House x Cameron(which sadly went nowhere), the main draw of the show for me was the medical mysteries, whether they were realistic or outlandish. I'm no medical expert, but I find them so interesting.

I'm glad to see others here share my boredom with the non-plot aspects of these procedural shows. I'm mainly in it for the main plot, and the extra character stuff is rarely as compelling. *shrug*

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
The fact that you know it's inaccurate makes it all a okay. I can't watch House myself, but patients who watch it and don't demand me to be just like House? I'm cool with that.
