Yeah, it sucks. I feel you. But does it really make you very uncomfortable? That is, my own mother has her oddities (and I don't mean it in a good way), but I generally don't give a damn. Although it used to freak me out when I was a child, because she tried to control my life in accordance to her beliefs.
It can be pretty hard if you're close, I suppose...
