Ponyo was really, and I mean really for the little kid crowd. I think maybe this generation's gotten used to cartoons having 'parental extras', which is why Ponyo is generally so intolerable to watch if you've hit puberty.

I actually liked Ponyo and so did my teenage kid, but I understand what you mean.

Also, I do think the plotting was very weak and I winced at the ending song we got in the U.S. (Not because of who was singing it, just because I thought it was awful.)

I liked Ponyo too :( The mother was just so freaking awesome!
