Re: ~Wherever you go, whatever you do, I will be right there dying with you~

Me, too! I don't know why, but I kind of liked my tragic endings. I remember one of my favourites was when I wandered through the cave of time, then came out way way far in the future, when the sun is dying and the earth is cold, and I guess I just stood there and died. I don't know - I really liked those endings.

Wow, that IS tragic as hell, but...I dig it. It's depressing but at the same time there's something about it I find appealing. Maybe it's just my love for angst, but hey, you died with the earth, it's symbolic and shit! (JK JK, but it is sort of poetic.)

This probably says a lot about us...

ayrt: I went and dug the book out of the basement (I'm getting ready for renos and have been discovering many very old things I squirreled away). So here's the ending I was talking about:

"You take the first tunnel and follow it on and on until you begin to wonder whether you are going around in circles. What can this mean? Perhaps time itself is slowing. You are nearing the point of exhaustion and begin to feel very cold. You see an opening up ahead and stars shining. You step outside on barren ground. It is bitter cold. Even though there is no wind, you know you will freeze if you stay more than a few minutes - maybe not that long, for the air seems very thin, as if you were on top of a very high mountain. You find yourself gasping for breath. You look up at the clear, cold night sky studded with thousands of stars. Among the stars, you notice a disk the size of the sun that gives off a dim red light like a dying ember. THE END."

OMG, that was mind-blowing to my little childhood brain. And while I was somewhat unsettled at the thought of the universe ever coming to an end, it just struck me as really profound. And yes, I still love angst and bittersweet, so maybe that's it.

That's sort of pretty... In a dramatic, desolate way. There are much worse sights to see in your time of dying than a 'sky studded with thousands of stars', even if it IS the end of the world. And if you have to die at the end of the world, better this than zombies! More peaceful. Also, again, prettier. If you want a happier ending you can tell yourself that somewhere, far far away, maybe in another universe, LIFE GOES ON!

da

Yep, add me to this list, I honestly thought the gruesome deaths were meant to be funny. So I took them as such, and enjoyed the "dead ends" (hahahaha sorry) the best.

...that's not weird is it?

I liked the dead ends much better than the happily ever afters, so I'm going to say, "No, that's not weird at all." ;-)
