NAYRT, but I think discovering that an older family member or friend supports a potentially racist, sexist, and otherwise prejudiced politician can be more disconcerting than just discovering "differing political opinions."

Well, I wouldn't mind it if she had different opinions- but she was incredibly rude about her hatred of Obama/Biden- I mean, I've known my Mum is a Conservative, but I attributed it to her finding Christianity in college, and sticking to it.

My grandparents always seemed very liberal to me, in that sense. They weren't church goers, we never prayed at the table, they had no Bibles... So for me, I thought Christian=Republican, (explaining my Mum and Uncle), and Non-Christian = Democrat (explaining my other uncles, my aunt, and my Da.)

So finding out my Grandmum was none of those things was a bit of a shock, yes.
