There is a comic going around on the tag frequently...this one. Sherlock fans post it into the Elementary tag a fair bit.

Ugggggggh. I'd never seen that before, but seriously, why?

(Also, what's with the cross Watson's wearing, that's just so random.)

All the time. It actually seems to personify what the more vocally obnoxious parts of the Sherlock fandom think. Or at least it seems to since they use it a lot.

(No idea, probably related to the artist. Some guy named John Preston, apparently he does a lot of icky things. Joan's not canonly any religion yet as far as we know, so.)

I think the ickiest part is Joan looking all ~intrigued by BBC!Sherlock. Like it's not enough that everyone on his show fawns over him.

Including a self-identified gay woman, but Sherlock isn't homophobic and misogynist, no sir! It's just perfect!

SIGH

As a Sherlock fan, I can say that I'd rather see a comic making fun of Sherlock than have to deal with the death threats and homophobic slurs myself and several friends got sent to our inboxes from Elementary fans. (I've never even posted about Elementary but got hideous slurs sent to me from Elementary fans because sometimes I post about Mark Gatiss.) There have been comics and actual TV skits that have made fun of Sherlock, just like with a lot of popular things. I laugh at them even though I like the show. Who cares? It's parody.

A friend of mine who's not in any TV fandom at all happened to post a review of Elementary's pilot because she attended a screening in the summer. She tagged it "elementary" because that's the name of the show and that's what she was writing about. Her review wasn't negative but mixed (some parts of it she liked, some didn't but she was a lot more positive about it than other reviews). She got such an influx of hate and literal threats she had to involve Tumblr support and eventually change her username. I just don't understand the fan mentality that thinks that behavior is okay.

I don't either. This is why I try and distance myself from the more vocal fans since a lot are like that. I know they feel horribly put upon but that's no excuse to harass people. It's a fandom, and sending death threats over tv shows, regardless of what side you're on, is just plain bullying.

It's just getting fed into from both sides now and it's absolutely ridiculous. I'm just as sick as anyone else of seeing stuff about 'Watson can't be a woman!' and so on, but that's no reason to attack anyone who puts forward any form of critique. There was even hate flung at Sherlock for stuff your showrunners said. Because Moffat has never, ever been an ass on his Twitter before and somehow it was the fans' fault for that, I just don't even.

But...but that comic isn't even funny or witty in its meanspiritedness. What's the point of being that meanspirited if you're not at least going to be funny about it?

Fandom war, I guess. It's come to the point where the more vocal part of the Elementary fandom just sees posting that comic in the tag alone as instigating.

Not really sure I disagree, either.

"the more vocal part"? How can it mean anything else? It'e pure meanspiritedness and they are not being unreasonable to see it as such.

Hey that almost looks like BBC Sherlock & Joan Watson but based on context it must be a coincidence.
