and I can't watch russian porn without getting squicked the fuck out. *shrug* what's close to home isn't really so sexy.

This exactly. Detachment is needed for this sort of thing. If it's too close, the detachment doesn't hold up.

Of course, there are some stans so far gone they are detached from reality in general, they can do it just fine.

Don't be one of those op. Cling to this.

i'm not russian but the one time i saw some russian porn this girl was putting an apple core up her vagina and that was NOPE material for me

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 04:36 am (UTC)(link)

SANITATION, does it still exist? D:

Totally forgot the name of the guy on the right, but he's really hot. Could have picked a more flattering picture though...

IDK who either of these people are but the guy on the right IS hot. Mmm. The guy on the left isn't bad either though. They look good together. /vain

Knut Nærum (shorter one) and Jon Almås. Best known for this humour/news-panel show they're in, called Nytt På Nytt.

Oh, okay. (Humour/news-panel show? I wonder if it's anything like what The Daily Show does.)

Thanks!

*shrug* Yeah, that's because when it stops being about X and Y from the Land of Z, it Becomes Real and you actually start thinking about it.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no problem shipping people from my own country, but there are a lot of people from here, so leaving them out would limit my shipping options. Norwegians tend to be weird looking, so I probably wouldn't ship them anyway, but I wonder if I would feel weird about shipping people from my country if it were a different smaller one with fewer internationally famous people.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to say Raske Menn aren't weird-looking, but, yeah, they kind of are. Though if you, as a Norwegian, think Norwegians look weird, what looks normal?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, I think maybe my post was unclear. I'm not Norwegian, I'm from a country with many people who are famous all over the world, so shipping people from my country isn't weird to me, and anyway, if I could only ship people from other places, it would severely limit the amount of people I could ship.

I was saying that I wondered if I would be less okay with shipping people from my own country if it were a smaller one with fewer international celebrities, because then maybe I'd think "a person from my country" rather than just "a person" when I saw someone famous from the same country I'm from. But if I were from Norway, I wouldn't know, because I wouldn't ship Norwegians for the same reason I don't now, which is that I think they look strange. Though maybe I wouldn't think that if I lived there.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Please say you're at least part Norwegian because you're coming off as rather racist.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, I...

How do Norwegians look weird? I am very confused by this. They just look like anybody else, to me.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Most of them (that I have seen anyway) have strange looking faces and just seem very cold and hard and unkind-looking. Those two men are examples of this.

A few years ago, I stayed at a hotel, and there were a bunch of Norwegians staying upstairs. Along being really noisy and banging and crashing up and down the stairs all night when they first came, my mom said one of them looked at her during breakfast and had creepy, soulless, "psycho" eyes. Which seems to be the case with a lot of them.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Jesus, never mind, you really are just racist.

The amount of time it took me to recognize those two is quite embarrassing, they are from basically the only Norwegian shows I like, and they add up to two of the three men in Norwegian tv I find attractive...

But I get it, I don't even like reading fanfics in Norwegian.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I felt the same way shipping Americans, too. There's a disconnect when the people are not of the same nationality of you, when you're not seeing them on TV every day, when you don't have a miniscule chance of actually running into them on the street.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Hm, I'm American and have no problem shipping Americans. America is so huge, unless you live in a place with a lot of celebrities, you probably aren't going to run into them on the street. And they are disconnected from me just because they are celebrities and people I've never met. But that's just me.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Which is why I say "felt". Also, I'm pretty sure the two of us having the same nationality doesn't factor in here. It's a general disconnect that you always expanded to include your own country, which isn't generally the case. It took a bit for me to not be so uncomfortable with it.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Foreigner = not real.

Agh. Sounds really bad. But that's the only way I can conceptualize it, when I really think about it. When the people you're shipping are foreigners, then they might as well be TV or movie characters. The fact that they are from a different country makes them, to a certain extent, not real to you. And so you can remove yourself.

The thoughts that I'm having are very strange and are bothering me a bit, because the implication is that nationality has a greater impact than any of us would like to believe. Granted, it's still all socially constructed, but what we treat as real becomes real, so...

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I prefer to think of it as "Do I have a chance of meeting this person irl?" When people are from outside my country, there's a much lower chance of meeting them, so I can ship away.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
OP of the secret

For me it's the "Do I have a chance of meeting this person irl?"

Not that I think that I one day will be at the same pary as those two, and randomly say that I think they would make a nice couple. But at the same time it's more plausible then any of the other rps ships I like.

lame, I know.
