Serious question. What should the Death Card say other than someone's going to die?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

I say this with almost no knowledge of Tarot, but isn't the Death card usually supposed to mean change?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
it means the end of something and the start of something else. Like the death of a cycle more than a person.

The tower, the four of swords, ten of swords, or even three of swords would be far more indicative of someone dying.

The Tower is a fucking terrifying card. That's indicative of "you are going to WISH you got off as easy as someone dying."

Seriously, I don't see why they don't use that one more often in TV shows. I mean, just going on the picture, Death's a skeleton, but it's reasonably sedate and dignified. The Tower's like "Rocks fall and everyone dies. Oh, and you'll probably get struck with lightening too. Your shit is pretty fucked."

The only example I can name is Vision of Escaflowne - which is bloody amazing.

Maybe X as well.

Escaflowne was so good! ;__;

I wouldn't go quite that far :-) The Tower usually indicates a shattering change, but often that change is for the best (the Tower is a rigid structure, after all). The problem is that it feels absolutely devastating at the time.

(Years ago, for the fun of it, I mailed a friend a postcard I found of the Toronto skyline that showed the CN Tower being hit by lightning. A week later, my long-time boyfriend broke up with me by phone. I was gutted for months. My friend later commented, "I knew something was coming when you sent me The Tower." o_O )

That's the problem with it. I'd much rather pull Death than the Tower. Both can indicate change for the better, but the Tower is special in it's brand of change.

Your friend was pretty insightful though. I hope your breakup was an example of change for the better, even if it hurt at the time.

original anon here! Sorry to be late, my computer is acting shitty.\

The Death Card symbolizes spirtual rebirth. An aspect of a person (ex. - personality trait), a belief, basically something abstract is going to "die" so to speak.

It doesn't mean someone is going to physically die or put a death notice on them or someone they know.

That's bascially how, I explain it to people when I do a reading and the card comes up.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It basically means the end of a journey, anon. The "death" of part of your life, but not the death of someone overall.
