I understand, OP. I ship a lot of things based on chemistry. And sometimes on the pretty. And sometimes one of the partners isn't even pretty, but they are so damn adorable or their interactions are just fun to watch/read.

This. It's WAY more about chemistry and emotions to me. Normally I find at least one of them vaguely attractive but since it's character depth/dynamic/story that drives me not wanting to get off on porn, that's not even all that necessary. It just depends. Maybe I'm strange but smut fic and porn is actually the least important part of shipping for me.
