Similarly, with ATLA, I shipped Zukaang and Kataang and Taang (yeah, I ship Aang with a good number of people, sue me) but I wasn't attracted to any of the characters that way either. I just thought they were cute/hilarious together and were capable of making each other happy in some way.
Granted I became attracted to LOK!Aang in a way but then he's a friggin' adult there...
I think for some ships there can be a definite element of some of the shipping motivation being based on attraction too- for instance many Zuko shippers have this and I think I have this with Asami on some level (honestly I always choose the wrong fandom bike according to my history D:). But not all of us do nor do all the time.
Shipping a character you find attractive isn't a bad thing though, hardly. It only gets bad if your blind devotion comes to a point where you're actually not seeing the 'real' them. Like the fact I love adorkable canon zuko rather than what in earlier fandom days some of his fans thought him as- suave and charming. Or how sometimes fandom can scream bloody murder if a character of theirs is rejected by the the other party in their favoured ship or they've instead gone off in a rival ship. I think that can happen in those not attracted but it's more...common I believe in those who are?
