I fucking love the show, haven't checked out the manga because of that, haha.

Just happy this isn't about the "remake"...

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
They're remaking this?!

Or are you talking about the Korean version? Which, while adorable and all, wasn't an even remotely faithful adaptation.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

No, they did a japanese remake. There's the original japanese one from 2007, and then they did another in 2011 with a whole new cast.

I will never understand when a franchise is remade 4 years later. I mean, c'mon, are you even reaching a new audience?!

{I also feel this way about the 9470812657632 million remakes of Austen novels.}

This.

Only the 1940 and the 1995 versions of P&P will I acknowledge. Greer Garson and Lawrence Olivier are my Darcy and Elizabeth!

Back on topic, a new adaptation should only be made if you think you can be more faithful to the text...

Is 1940 the one with the hoopskirts and the American accents? Because that one... I can do without.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha. Yes. It is laughably bad and I love it.

+1 to ALL of this

Managed to see a little of the remake - it made the original actors look like the royal shakespeare company. I don't have a problem with adaptations changing things, and sometimes I think the changes are for the better (Zettai Kareshi).

What show / manga?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Hana Kimi

never watched the live action but i loved this manga and am still outraged at the lack of (and holding out for) a decent anime adaptation /sigh

I completely agree. In fact when I tried to watch the drama the first time I was so upset because it wasn't like the manga at all, but a friend convinced me to give it a shot and watch with an open mind and yeah, I take them to be two very separate stories.

Still haven't gotten around to watching the 2011 version or Korean or Taiwanese ones though.

I get where you're coming from, since my favorite manga has a reeeeally frustrating anime adaptation, but...I think people not reading the manga also allows them to like a show for what it is. Even if it frustrates us manga fans, I think sometimes it's just better to let fans like the show version, too. Particularly if it's so different that what they like about the show might not be in the manga at all.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
I loved the manga, but the show was reaaaaaally not good adaptation-wise. I probably would have rage quit if the dorm heads, Nakatsu and Kayashima hadn't been so good. If you're looking for a good adaptation, I'd recommend the Taiwanese drama. They did a good job staying true to the manga and the casting for everyone was superb. Sano is amazing.

For me it was just low, low expectations. I started watching so I can laugh at how bad it is (I mean come on, a live-action adaptation of a manga? how can that be anything but TERRIBAD?), and then... then it turned out to be not bad at all. It was fun and funny and it had heart and made my childhood crush on Nakatsu return with the strength of a thousand suns.

I agree that as an adaptation it's severely lacking, but I'm still happy they made it.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably because they view it as its own show.

I loved both, because I didn't expect a 12 episode live action TV show to be exactly the same as a, what, 150+ chapter manga. Of course it wasn't a directly faithful adaptation, what the hell were you expecting? If you know that's going to bug you, then why bother watching?
