This happened to me often. Whenever I brought it up, the person never really cared that I failed to follow through. They were always just happy I wanted to do it in the first place. Case of: it's the thought that counts.

I have some many things in that exact same vein I regret over the years. I was a real bitch until about this time last year, really, something I am trying to make up for, right now. (But then I'm trying to make up for a lot of things in my life right now).

I'd apologize - while the person probably doesn't care anymore or necessarily remember, it couldn't hurt. There's things friends said they'd do for me that they didn't, and while I don't hold it against them, it would be nice if they acknowledged it.

Apologizing might be nice. If I was your friend I'd care less that you lost interest in the story and more that you stopped talking to me suddenly, so if I was in her shoes an apology and explanation would mean a lot to me.

But, either way, don't beat yourself up over it. I'm sure everyone has had that one online friend who suddenly disappeared... most people are used to it.

I had a friend at the time offer to podfic one of my stories a couple years ago. I still remember that she never ended up doing it, but I don't hold it against her. I just figured she lost interest in the project/the fic/the fandom, and while I'm sad that happened, it happens and I would've felt worse making her feel like she was obligated to finish, when she wanted to do something else with her time. I'm sure even if the author does remember, anon? They don't hold it against you, and like people above have said, they were probably just really flattered you even wanted to do it in the first place. <3

I know that situation all too well, been on the receiving end as well. I can't speak for how she feels but things happen... people get busy and might not get around to doing things. I don't think there should be any hard feelings.

If you do still talk to her you could mention it and say your sorry that you were never able to do it, just to get it off your chest.

But I don't think you should beat yourself up too much over it. You didn't do it to intentionally hurt her. Loosing interest and inspiration happens.
