people who use tumblr savior or other similar extensions can block posts on their dash that are tagged with certain things they've set it to filter, which is helpful for people with triggers, or people looking to avoid spoilers or subjects they dislike/aren't interested in.

And on the other side of the coin, tagging things helps other users find your posts more easily.
