I think it's kind of pathetic when people travel from elsewhere in the U.S. to Hollywood for the sake of Hollywood.

But what if you want to be in movies? Where else would you go?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I mean for the sake of being in Hollywood, not job hunting in Hollywood. If you're going to Hollywood for the sake of job hunting in Hollywood, that's not pathetic -- possibly delusional, but obviously some people succeed, so whatever.

I think there's a difference between going to a city renown for its history in making movies and promoting itself as such vs an entire country.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, going to Japan as if it is Animeland is even MORE pathetic.

You do realize that's like saying, "Ugh... all those people who go to Vegas to gamble and see showgirls are so pathetic," right?

It's not only part of the city's history, but also part of their tourism market that puts a lot of local people in business.

Well, I've never been there so I wouldn't know. Do they have good clubs and parties?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know. Does Japan?

Depends where you are and what your idea of a good time is. Tokyo has a good nightlife.

I don't follow your logic. Hollywood bills itself as THE place for movie making history. Maybe you want to take a tour or look at celebrity houses or something. If it's there, why not go see it?

The only way this would make sense for me is if you live there. I live by the beach, but I don't get tourists' love of it because...it's the beach. It's not all that great.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Huh.

I don't think I could ever not love the beach/ocean, regardless of how much time I've spent there.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
...what?

"It's pathetic to travel to a tourist attraction for the sake of experiencing the tourist attraction."

Do you also hate it when people go to Disney World, Atlantic City, Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, etc?
