Oh, come on, even if an anime tour is what you wanted, you could have fixed that up on your own easily in the big cities. Hit Harajuku and take in the fashion on the streets, try a maid cafe and the Ghibli museum, duck into every anime and manga merch shop you see, (Ikebukuro back alleys are good for that kind of thing. Also love hotels.)

There's so much more to do in Japan though, like trying a tea ceremony, getting your name stamp in kanji, getting strapped into a kimono, nature hikes, Kendo lessons, eating the real good sushi and all the recipes you don't get in benihana, temples and umeshu, interesting snack foods, bullet trains, war memorials, gorgeous fans, awesome calligraphy, getting chased by badgers, dodging stray cats, super frilly bras, learning to sort your garbage like you got OCD, collecting Engrish pics and t-shirts, and the ever-popular unintentionally entertaining Japanese folk with your total gaijin ignorance.

Sounds like you went in with too many preconceptions and missed what was really there. Sorry it didn't work out for you.
