You mean typing a tag in once, then typing in the first letter next time and picking out the tag you're looking for? It takes about 3 seconds.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
And throwing your privacy out the window.

Clicking "unfollow" takes 1 second. If you're slow.
streetcake: (Default)

[personal profile] streetcake 2012-11-06 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Then don't do it. You'll make some people mad but who cares? They'll probably unfollow you eventually.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Not if they're passive-aggressive bitches like the OP, apparently =D
streetcake: (Default)

[personal profile] streetcake 2012-11-06 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Then they'll...what? Passive-aggressively follow you and keep quiet as they seethe with anger? If they hackle you you can block them.

Easy one-click remedies.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Irrelevant. I'm just pointing out that "they'll stop following you eventually" has already been proven wrong by this stupid bitch of an OP.

Ah okay. Well, good luck to your non-tagging lifestyle then.

This entire thread is terrible.

yet weirdly entertaining from the perspective of someone not invested in either end of this pointless argument about how to blog for readers/oneself.

I was having a lot of fun with it, actually.

If the intent was to successfully role play as a tumblr person who takes tumblr tags personally, good show. Very meta.

I kinda wish I had a paid account to track this secret's comments though. It's like a contest, but I'm not sure there is a prize, or that anyone is winning :U

It was more out of curiosity to understand why the anon was taking being asked to tag so personally. Plus, it's kind of fun waiting for the next response to see what terrible thing they'll say next.

You do realise that this specific thread started with otakugal's faith in humanity being easily lowered by lack of tags, right? It's hard to buy anyone claiming to be purely stoic, or merely trying to ttly pwn obvious trolls.
streetcake: (:O)

[personal profile] streetcake 2012-11-06 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you mean I'm claiming to be stoic?(genuine question) Well, other anons had similar reactions upthread before otakugal's comment, so I didn't think about it when I responded I guess.

I mean truthfully it was a mix of curiosity and late night boredom. I did want to know why the anon was so reluctant to tag their posts and stuff, but I also had fun responding to the anon even when I knew the conversation was pointless. Idk if I come off mad or whatever in the thread, but I'm really not. Not tagging annoys me but I can't get mad over it.

Maybe stoic isn't the right word. Unaffected? Distanced? That's what I read into your response anyways. When folk continue a conversation along the lines of trying to get the last word in, it really doesn't come across as neutral, or with such a shift of control.

Not that you have to prove otherwise. You had fun regardless.

I kind of thought anon made their point and reasoning clear even through the vitriol. They don't like being told how to use their blog due to arbitrary and non-universal etiquette, or told that they should consider followers who might use TS, despite the fact that tagging makes their posts more searchable by public users (when they wish to leave it as friend-locked as possible?).

Tbh I'm not even sure what to prove? Like, to me, I wasn't taking the conversation too seriously and it just sort of fizzled out and that was that. I didn't think it came off like I was trying to get the last word in or anything.

After anon said they didn't tag for privacy reasons I understood. That's why I kinda switched over to asking why they couldn't just ignore them since they have no way to control whether they tag or not. The whole "don't tell me how to run my life" responses seemed disproportionate to what was being asked of them, so that was why I kept pressing, to see if they could say something I could make sense of.

"Tbh I'm not even sure what to prove?"
Because you are still insisting that you weren't serious, and that it was only you who was successfully baiting anon?

"The whole "don't tell me how to run my life" responses seemed disproportionate to what was being asked of them..."
As I mentioned before, what's being asked of them was asked in an OTT, dramatic manner. Why wouldn't someone respond in kind? The answer to "but why!" is not complex.
streetcake: (Default)

[personal profile] streetcake 2012-11-06 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I said I knew the conversation was pointless and I continued anyway, so I guess I knowingly took the bait. I also said I was genuinely curious even though I wasn't taking the conversation seriously. I can't take tagging arguments seriously, but I was seriously interested in knowing why anon was so angry about it.

Hmm, I think the problem is that I've seen tagging arguments before, from people much less dramatic than OP or otakugal, and they still responded with the same anger that some of the anons in this secret are showing. I wasn't thinking about the secret in particular and more about the tagging issue in general. I'm not saying it makes any more sense now, but I can say after this I'm more blah whatever to the tagging issue.

This is an entertaining thread, even from the POV of another angry anon who won't tag to please op or otaku

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
way late to the party, I know, but seriously? You expect privacy when you post stuff to the internet?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't expect it, no. But I'll take whatever measures a site affords me.

Tumblr affords me the option not to tag, so I don't tag. That not doing so pisses off people like the OP and Pony-Bitch is a bonus.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay well...did you know it also lets you make private posts? Or a password protected sideblog?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I have yet to see a private posting option, so no. And hey, if not tagging pisses off uptight people like the OP and that Otaku pony cunt, that's just extra incentive not to do it.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
okay, it's none of my business if you have a hate boner for otakugal but

when you make a post, it has two drop down menus in the top right corner. One is lets you select the blog you want to post to, if you have multiple ones (this probably doesn't show up if you just have the one) and the second one says publish now

if you click on that second one you will see these options:
publish now
add to queue
publish on...
save as draft
private

select 'private' and there you go!

works for reblogs too.

;)

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Good to know, I guess, but then the people who do follow me can't see it, either. There's no happy medium of "let only these people see it" like there is on LJ and its love children. Not tagging things is the closest I can get to that.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
ah well, what I do for that is make a sideblog with a password and give it to the friends I want to see it. It's never gonna work exactly like lj and that's...too bad, I guess.
