He's not only a horribly sexist asshole. He's also a rapist, a torturer, a guy who thinks making human experiments are completely acceptable, someone who treats everyone around him like shit (including people who are mentally ill), and the only person he treats better is because she fits his misogynistic stereotype of a "pure" girl. Seriously. After what he did to Shelly, there's no coming back (pff, it's not like there was a chance he was a decent human being before, but okay).

But if by 'misunderstood' you mean there is more to him than just a monstrous jerk, that he probably has a very interesting back story and fascinating psychological issues... Yeah, you just used bad wording and I agree.
