173 divided by 2.54 is 68 inches, so 5'8". Not 5'7". Most "white" countries, the average male height is 5'10". While you can appear extremely small depending on your build (which I gather is the thing with Cloud, though I've never played any FF games), 5'8" isn't actually that short. 5'7" is getting on the short side. 5'6", you're short. But 5'8" really isn't actually that short unless you're comparing to much taller people. But the over-six-footers are more off of average than someone who's 5'8".

Sorry for that rant. >.> My main fandom has a lot of people being assholes about the height of the guys in it and it gives me hives sometimes, and people misdoing centimeters to feet 'n inches is one of my biggest pet peeves (you just need a calculator to do it right!).

I think it is a comparative thing. Whether it's 5'7" or 5'8" he's still in a herd of six footers, and much bulkier people for the most part at that. And then there's the 'passing for a cute girl' thing. As far as we can see, he really might be short for guy on Gaia.

Eh, I live in Asia, trust me when I say 5'7" is actually slightly above average for a guy here. It's not tall by any extent, but it's decidedly not short- you'd have to be 5'5" and below for that. Over six footers? FUCKING GIANTS, is how people'd look at them.

Same anon you replied to.

Well, to be true my "main fandom" is K-Pop, and average height for men in SK is 5'9", but Korea is pretty made of tall in comparison to other Asian countries. Japan's average height is just short of 5'8", so I imagine 171 or 172cm.

Thank you for that by the way. '5'7"' has been his canon height for years but I spent some time going back and checking the cm to in height and saw he's more 5'8".

I personally like that comparatively speaking he's shorter than the other guys around him, but I think the Planet's populace, and a lot of the SOLDIER operatives (because mako), tends to lean on the tall side. So he stands out because he's a total powerhouse but doesn't have powerhouse traits. Advent Children makes it more obvious imo... he may be slim and kind of lean but those are muscles. He's also a giant compared to me because I'm horrendously tiny.

As for the Buster sword, yeah, he kind of had to learn to use that thing. He had difficulty with it after Zack gave it to him but in the month between then and OGC start, he picked up on it pretty quick. Angeal said it was heavy and unwieldy but I imagine once you figure it out it's not that tough. Once you get used to something, it seems weird to people who aren't...
