i'd have to disagree. everyone is entitled to their opinion and their vote, and it's disrespectful to attack/berate someone solely because their opinion differs from yours. you're not obligated to like or even respect an opinion, but you're not doing obama or democrats a service by harassing folks from the other side.

I'm not advocating harassment by any means, but what if someone's opinion is "I think gay people should be murdered?" Is it still disrespectful to berate them?

There's a difference between 'Murder is wrong' and 'I'm conservative/voting for the conservative candidate' - and the OP seems to be really going for the latter, which, considering the general attitude of Tumblr with gay rights [at least from what I've seen of it] means that there's a fairly good chance the OP could be harassing lodge cabin republicans...which is the one conservative group that actually would be solidly *for* gay rights.

Even if that was what they believed, screaming at them is probably only going to make them more likely to cling to 'THIS MUST HAPPEN', if only to prevent the ebil liberals from winning, as opposed to rationally debating it. So...idk if it's disrespectful, but it's not the smart thing certainly. [And I say this as someone who would have a very vested interest in that PoV changing.]

i don't think many non-republicans realise how diverse the people of the gop really are. something like 40% of us aren't interested in criminalising abortion or restricting birth control and what, like 38% openly support gay marriage?? so blanket judging people, or attacking them solely because you heard they're a republican, isn't very wise. at least get their stances on the issues first, you know?

i mean, some people will just never change their opinion, and i understand being angry at them for it. so i'm not like completely against people lashing out at others under certain circumstances. but like you said, if you haven't come that far yet and you're genuinely interested in aiding your cause, be it abortion rights or marriage equality, etc., you're probably seeking to sway those folks. harassing them is the fastest way to close that opportunity off to you. ("you" in a general sense obviously, not you as an individual lol.)

not imo, because an opinion of that nature is threatening and violent, so if somebody went on the offensive against a person with such an opinion, i wouldn't consider it an attack based on the difference in opinion itself but rather anger at a lack of human decency.
