Re: Election!

i wasn't able to vote today (i'm registered in a different county and i'm without a car; i was promised a ride back to my county but that fell through at the last second) but i'm not peeing my pants over it tbh. i'm in indy and we're pretty firmly red in most elections, so regardless of how i vote the general consensus would be in favour of repubs.

but honestly? i was undecided up until the very end. if i had to pick between the two main candidates i would side with obama, albeit after some hesitation. i don't think he's done a horrible job as president so far, so to me a vote for him would be a safe vote. plus romney has backed some things in the past that i wasn't/am not a big fan of. for me, the biggest thing was his support for mormon rehabilitative facilities in utah. having been in a more secular facility of the same purpose, i can promise you it was the worst experience of my life and i'm surprised i didn't kill myself. i know my experiences aren't uncommon either, so i'm wondering if romney has ever experienced one of these facilities for himself. on top of that, as we all read a few months ago, romney has a bit of a bullying streak. the past is the past for sure, but i don't look too kindly on bullies of any background.

i will say though that the rumour his victim killed himself is a lie, i know that was going around tumblr and that's not true. tumblr tends to miss a lot of these things and i get really defensive over them despite not liking the guy. today it's been allegations that the gop is ~rigging voting machines to change obama votes to romney, when in actuality the gop is having the same problems with some romney votes. the machines just suck.

i'm usually really passionate about elections, but i'm just not feeling this one. there's no passion in it for me this time around. i think ultimately, had i voted, it would have been for gary johnson. my only qualm with him is his position on health care not being a right, but otherwise he's really likable.

I would yell at you about downballot elections, but they just called it for Joe Donnelly over "Rape is God's Will" Murdouck so it's all good. I'm definitely in a similar position regarding the President race, though.

no worries, i pay just as much attention to them too. i knew donnelly would secure a win, mourdock dug his own grave awhile ago. not sure about the gubernatorial race though! gregg seems like a great politician, but pence is so well-liked here that i'm honestly surprised it's even this close.

overall i'm not very passionate about any candidates this year. i know that's awful to hear, especially from a politically active polisci major, and i certainly would have done an absentee ballot had i known my ride back home was going to fall through. guess i learned my lesson.
