And I completely understand that, really.

It's just...how do they know if Mitt even actually supports theirs? I'm guessing they believe that "hey, with this economy a business man might be a good idea". That's really the only way I can explain it.

oh, i see. yeah, he played some typical political games after the primaries were over. both parties - namely the gop though - try to appeal to their more left-leaning or right-leaning constituents during the primaries so that they get the party nomination. then it's back to moderate policies to woo people on the other side of the fence. obama didn't do any of that this year since he didn't have to run in a primary, but it happened in 2008. romney just wasn't very subtle about it, to the point that he confused people who inherently disagreed with him.

i think for the most part voters assume their candidates will be moderate-leaning, since the two-party system kinda forces it. but i know what you mean, it is a rather weird game to watch politicians play.

luckily for many, we won't have to worry about what romney's real opinions are anyway, right?

I always felt the real Romney was when he was governor. Whatever this crazy clueless out of touch old white dude is now, it's not what he was even 5 years ago. That's my biggest issue with him, he's purely mercenary, willing to be whatever he thinks voters want him to be rather than just presenting himself as-is like Obama did.

Though... I kind of feel like the real reason Romney lost was EVERYONE ELSE IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. I mean, when someone says "the rape guy lost" and you're not sure which one they mean, there's something wrong.

haha yeah, it's fucking ridiculous. i don't even call myself a republican anymore, or at least for the most part, because suddenly the views i've always had are now not republican??? the gop has changed so much but in the wrong direction, so they'll be lucky if they ever see the oval office again at this rate.

i get a politician changing face for votes, even if i don't believe in it, but romney went way overkill with this. i agree that politicians should be more honest about themselves. if you have to lie or hide things to gain the public's favour then maybe you shouldn't be running, you know?

Pretty sad that Romney was the best the GOP could come up with. I mean, really guys? This after NINE FUCKING PEOPLE in the primaries?

they were really scrambling in the primaries, too. one of these days i'm gonna run for president and i'm not trifling with any of their bullshit so they better get it figured out before then.
