Your First Period (Possibly TMI)

I was just randomly remembering some horrible episode of 7th Heaven where Ruthie didn't want to make a big deal out of it and then she got told "tough shit we're having a celebratory dinner where everyone knows about it no matter what you want". Which seemed horrible to me, and still does.

But to the point: How old were you when you got your first period? Did you or anyone else make a big deal out of it. Did you want anyone to?

I got my first period two months before my thirteenth birthday (a couple of weeks after September 11th, actually, so I had a fairly literal "there goes my childhood" month). I just told my Mom; she seemed a little dismayed/surprised to realize her baby just started menstruating, but I just put on a pad and went on with my life.

I was in fifth grade, and it was about a month before my eleventh birthday. The first two/three times weren't that bad, but sometime in like, February, I got my first cramps and feeling like absolute hell. I got to stay home for the day, and when my friends asked me why, I just lied about it. It was bad enough that I had been wearing a bra for a few years at that point.
