It is what's special about her. This is all based on the early seasons, I think she might have changed in the later seasons. I just haven't gotten that far yet.

But I thought she failed most of the other Mary Sue requirements. She's not always right. People aren't constantly describing how beautiful she is. She isn't the magic solution to all problem in the story.

Mostly her skills are used as a beefed up version of Google for Clark, beefed up because she can hack- which isn't a massive power in a show where the lead can lift tractors over his head and light fires with his eyes. In all honesty her computer savvy qualities are used as a plot delivery device by the writers. They rarely emphasize how smart she really is to be doing all of that, or what a hero she is when the information does help save the day. At best there's a "Thanks Chloe" or "You're a Life Saver". Except for a few episodes. To be fair though I know she got some crazy powers later on in the series.

The writers actually loved Lana a lot more, they thought she was the real magic of the show. I always thought she fell closer to the Mary Sue side of things.

Agreed about Lana, and eventually Lois. I had nothing against either of them, but I could never figure what they were supposed to be doing on the show at all when Chloe was right there, being smarter than a post and doing useful things other than being the Hottest Girls In the World. And having actual chemistry with Clark, as much as I never wanted them to hook up. But Lana and Lois had "comic canon" support that Chloe didn't, so. Maybe they should have cast Chloe's actress as Lana and retconned the character as a nerdy hacker and investigator....surely it would have been a very different show.

That would have actually been pretty interesting. I'll admit to being one of the fans who thought that Chloe would eventually take the pen name Lois Lane, before we found out she was related to the actual Lois. I haven't seen the Lois episodes yet so I don't know anything about her character, I'm guessing she's pretty different from the comics. I just thought it would have been an interesting twist on the comics, and the relationship between Chloe and Lana, if she would have been Lois all along. I was surprised when I found out that Lois had been introduced on the show. I wasn't upset or anything, I just thought the other way would have been something new to explore.

Oh, it never occurred to me to think "Lois Lane" could become Chloe's pen name, but it sounds like a really fantastic alternative to the awkward way they introduced Lois as a separate character who originally never dreamed of being a reporter like Chloe did, but eventually tripped and fell into the role along the way - and never really made it work, IMO, but I've always liked Chloe better. (I'm one of the fans who thought they'd just kill Chloe off to serve as Lois's tragic inspiration and Clark's new sidekick...assuming there were other fans who were as pessimistic as I was, haha).
