I've always really liked her too. Maybe it's because I haven't watched after Season 3, but I don't understand fandoms vitriol towards her. She's clever, independent, has ambitions and is not afraid to be different.

Sadly, you've just described why they hate her.

No, we hate her because she turned into an egotistical, manipulative (OH WAIT she was always manipulative) shrew who thought she was above it all since she knew some special secrets and therefore decided knew what was best for everyone. And god forbid you disagree with her.

Can you give some examples of this? I followed Smallville on and off over the years and I thought Chloe was one of the more sensible characters in the show. There were a few times when she made questionable decisions, but she was mostly a proactive character who utilized her talents to make some sort of difference when shit goes down. I think it took the edge off the fact that Clark Kent was the most reluctant superhero ever. (That made me facepalm for years.)

And let's not discount the iffy writing on this show. It was pretty much a trainwreck that lasted ten years.

You can pretty much look at the entirety of seasons 8 and 9 for numerous examples of Chloe up and deciding it's either her way else you're in for a shitload of emotional manipulation to do it her way, or it's her way because she'll just do it without telling anyone because why bother with other people when you know what's best for the world all by yourself?

ayrt, i was busy for a few days

I did watch those seasons, and it seems to me that a lot of Chloe's actions and motives had made some sense in context of what happened in those seasons, considering what happened to her in that span of time. She still very much wanted to save the world, but her outlook changed massively and developed a boatload of trust/control issues to boot. It definitely distorted her perspective in what it takes to do what needed to get done.

Did I think Chloe got off pretty easy in the show? Hell yeah, I did. I just don't agree that she was as horrible as you described her to be. Her character development had pushed her further into a morally grey area, and it's understandable that why she's there in first place.

To me, they sort of made sense if you looked at it in the way that only Chloe knew the right thing to do and she was going to do it, anyone else be damned. And her choices were often wrong and led to more problems than they solved, yet she still believed she was right and what she had done was still the best thing because Chloe knows best!

I also admit that her supercrazy fans made me hate her more, but mostly it was how she was written in later seasons. And to think, up to season 5 she was my second favourite character.
