Maybe I'm just too far removed from this sort of thing, but...I don't understand why this would matter? I mean, it's just fandom, and it's not like you guys are sharing national secrets among one another or anything. You're just sharing pics and art and squeeing over fannish things. The gossip and rumors kind of suck, sure, but you'd get that even without cliques and "spies."

Most of it is squee and fun, and it definitely started that way - everyone were friends, everyone shared everything. But in a way they are national secrets, LOL. The companies don't want you sharing files - official, tv, fancams, music - and with the sharing sites being taken down, sharing can only go underground since it is technically illegal to, ie, take a vid, fansub it, and share it with fans.

HQ pics and scans are art are another thing. There was the Tumblr blackout - that was due to Tumblr people taking good quality images from fansites and editing them in this arguably not very good way. Also, Twitter auto-resizes which annoys fanartists, so they don't want their stuff shared. Further, translations were being stolen and then claimed by others as theirs. So all this stuff, after wank and wank and wank, goes underground.

It doesn't help that three members left TVXQ to make their own band, leaving two behind. Years of wank caused the fandom to break off into sections. Now we have a problem where individual fans (I mean, fans of individual "oppas") are gathering to put down other individual fans (ie yungall, neverend).

Personally, my friends and I are TV2XQ all-fans. This means, we like Yunho and Changmin mostly-equally, and we are disinterested/dislike JYJ, and have no interest in Always Keeping The Faith. I tried to be friends with everyone at first, I really did, but I'm tired of the wank, of being told Yunho and Changmin aren't good enough, whether for TVXQ or each other, etc.

tl;dr: the solution to piracy + fanwar = cliques.

Yeah. This is really ridiculous to begin with, and there's no excuse for treating other fans like that anyway. One fan doesn't deserve things any more than another.
