Yeah, that's not going to stop anyone, particularly considering how many participants in fandom are under the age of 18. And, what's worse, is that you'll never know whether the smut you're reading or the porny fanart you're reading is by someone who is of legal age or not.

It's better to just avoid that material altogether.

It's glaringly obvious when someone under 18 writes porn. It's glaringly obvious when anyone under about 24 or 25 writes porn. Usually the summary will give it away but if not, the first paragraph definitely will. The only people who would want to read that junk would be in the same age group and it's easy for older people to give it a wide miss.

I can assure you this isn't true in at least four cases I know of personally, and in all four cases the authors have never publicly revealed their actual age in association with their writing. And speaking personally my porn so far has always been positively received, sometimes by a rather large audience and I've yet to reach 22.

Like any demographic, I agree there's a percentage of under 25 writers who... aren't that good or interesting, but I think you have some confirmation bias at play here. I definitely wouldn't say age is a good rule of thumb when deciding to read porn and only reading the "good" porn isn't going to protect you from reading something written by someone who is an age you're uncomfortable with.
