And I don't have a problem with strong characters being turned into whimpering messes in bet, no quite the opposite.
But I do get tired of seeing characters' personalities being wittled down to fit into the mold of some sort of archetype that the fans see them as. It's not about whether it's unrealistic for people to act like that or whatever, but it's done so often in every fandom I've ever been in, I just get tired of it. Especially if I really liked that character's actual canon personality and relationship with whoever he's being shipped with.
