Hi. :) I'm an engineer, working for the transportation department for my state. Before that, I worked for a consulting firm. Before that, I interned at a chemical plant. I'd say I've been in the job market for my field for probably something like twelve years, and I've been out of college for about fifteen.

Those people who get jobs based on connections but don't have the skills to back them up never last long. Ever. Connections might help you get the job, but at least in my field, they only help a little. I doubt this is the only field where this is true either.

This is true. Connections and networking can get you the job, sure, but you also need skills and an open attitude to keep the job.

Absolutely, but that doesn't make it any less true that (especially in certain industries) connections are *everything* when it comes to getting the job in the first place. They're not just optional bonus extra fun pieces, they're really important. Doesn't mean you're any less qualified for the job because you used your connections to get it.

Well, that's great? I'm not putting down skills but meant to enforce that looks do put you forward. Sorry, I'm good at English but sometimes I just don't put the point where I should.
