Because LOVE INTEREST! Every character must have a LOVE INTEREST! To Sherlock Holmes she is always the woman!

Yes, it annoys me too, can you tell? Actually, it doesn't even annoy me that much that she's in all the adaptations as a prominent character, because I think she's awesome, and if she could get a decent adaptation that wasn't 'Sherlock's long lost love' or 'supervillain', I would welcome that with open arms.

I haven't seen Skyfall yet, but now I'm definitely looking forward to it!

Also, I think the reason why Deranged Bisexual is still a trope is because it adds a sexual threat in addition to the physical threat, making the stakes just a bit higher.

Laughing because of last night's episode reveal. Spoiler indeed.

On the bright side, I hope the writers will be clever enough to twist their version of Irene Adler so it's not a romantic story. My best wish would be a twist of Adler being Irene's married name or alias and her real surname is Moriarty. And Sherlock didn't fall for her romantically, she bested him, mentally. And people died as a result, which Sherlock blames himself completely.

I like how this Sherlock seems to take the cases more personally than the other Sherlock versions. They aren't just puzzles, though they are, these crimes are puzzles with narratives. And those narratives involve innocent victims. Those victims seems to haunt Sherlock every times he fails to solve something.

On a side note, the good thing about Elementary doing Irene Adler is that given the show films in NYC we may have a version where Adler is actually played by a New Jersey actress. Actual canon that I have seen any of the other versions of Sherlock Holmes yet to do.

I think that's part of why Irene is as noticed as she is [as far as ACD canon goes], is because she was the one woman who caught Sherlock's attention* but didn't return it, or even seem that interested in having any type of relationship with him.

*Romantically, non-romantically, whatever. She took him off guard which peaked his interest because he wasn't used to that.

As someone with a little brother who had an eating disorder... it makes me sad that it's emphasised as a "teenage girl's" disease, and that it's all to do with weight, when in reality, it goes much deeper than that.

But on the other hand, when people who are famous (like this guy) are brave enough to talk about things like that, it makes me glad.
