You're right. I don't participate in the fandom, but I watch the show. I would like for that ship to happen just so something interesting happens. I'm getting a little irritated by the same old same old.

I do get that. Caroline's my favorite character, and I'm getting really sick of seeing her stuck in a C plot, with her own POV unexplored. I'd be really interested in a story where she's forced to confront the temptation towards darkness without the safety net of her human life to hold her back.

Of course, as the storyline has been written, Klaus is a thousand year-old whining toddler who alternates between drawing ponies and expressing his *loneliness* with daggering his adoring, tragically pathetic little sister whenever she steps a toe out of line and generally mass murdering people who look at him funny (and if they happen to be women, so much the better). He's both horrifying because of his physical strength and resources, and ridiculous as one of the lamest Bad Boys I've ever seen. Actually making Caroline fall for him after what he's done to *everyone* she loves would be total character assassination (and psychologically dishonest, if she doesn't end up horrifically abused in turn).

I'd actually say Tyler has gotten to a place where he strives to do The Right Thing just because it's Right, and he's mostly genuinely respectful of his girlfriend these days.

Not saying he isn't a creep for his AR in the pilot or the plot-driven Sire Bonded crap he's pulled, but his general arc has been about overcoming his Alpha Male Douchebag upbringing in order to become a genuinely good guy.

Admittedly, he was also a jerk in the latest episode for not being upfront about Hayley and his plan to rescue the hybrids, but again, that was mostly a crappy plot-driven Did He Or Didn't He Cheat fakeout.

Yeah, and that's why I don't ship Stelena OR Delena. Actually, I've been side-eyeing Elena herself ever since she was so able to brush aside the rape and abuse of her supposed "friend" in S1.

Of course, somehow it's an Unpopular Opinion that Caroline was even raped in the first place. WTF is wrong with this fandom, anyway?

And yet somehow, female ~vampires who actually still care about the well-being of their friends and family and who choose to exist as ethically as they are able to do not deserve to have their autonomy respected. If a misogynistic mass-murderer tells them they will want him someday, then they ~will want him someday.

I hate the writers of this show so much. There are so many flashes of potential brilliance, and then it all devolves into absolute base-pandering shit.

Still SOOOO bitter over the deaths of Anna, Pearl, AND Lexi over the course of S1. So much diverse female awesomeness, so much more backstory to explore (is Anna Pearl's biological daughter, when and why did Pearl and Katherine become friends, how any or all of these three turned in the first place, etc.), and all squashed to further Salvatore manpain as well as the never-ending Triangle Of Doom.

Turn Caroline into a Klaus apologist (as opposed to an insecure girl who's not above the effects of flattery from a powerful, rich and handsome male but who still recognizes that the bastard has caused untold pain towards everyone she's ever cared about without any remorse whatsoever and thus wishes him dead), and I'm finally done.

Ita with you anon but this is also a fandom who ships the lead character with two brothers who have abused and manipulated her time and time again. Now I'm not saying you can't ship any of these pairings (I ship at least one) but sweet and fluffy, they are not. No not even Stefan/Elena.

Exactly! Like...if you like the ships BECAUSE they are fucked up, awesome. if you can point out when they characters are being assholes and acknowledge that their behavior is unacceptable, even better. But if you think any of these ships are PERFECT and any of these characters can do no wrong, I feel like we're watching different shows.

I ship just about everyone with just about everyone else on this show, but I acknowledge the fucked up situations that this show puts its characters and pairings in and rarely even indulge in the ~fluffy side of the fandom, as I find it unrealistic and out of character.

Stefan/Elena is almost the worst of the three just because it almost seems wholesome up until the point where his mass murder spree is mostly only significant in so far as it pertains to the prospects for his love life, and he terrorizes his love interest by threatening to turn her into a vampire in the *exact same spot* that her parents died. The abuse is horrific, but he's so effectively Stockholmed her by that point that she can't see any of it for what it actually is anymore.

The other two ships are so much more obviously fucked up and thus slightly less insidious, although somehow Klaus comes close to making Damon look good. As twisted as he is, at least Damon is capable of genuinely caring about a few other people besides himself (and I admit this not as a Damon apologist, but as someone who'd be downright gleeful if Caroline and/or the others were to stake him in the series finale). Klaus is just an eternal narcissist baby, although an admittedly dangerous one.
