I'm confused...did someone approach you while you were working and do this?

Yeah... that's my question too. If they did, that less about them fetishishing a profession and more them being a creepy jerk.

Actually, in my case, it was a friend who had a fetish for what the priest of my religion wear...and doesn't seem to understand that, while I'm cool with her having that fetish [each to their own], I really don't want to hear about it - and I really, really am not comfortable taking her to services at my church because, by her own admission, it's basically to collect fap fodder.

And yes, I've mentioned I'm not comfortable with hearing/doing that.

that is definitely crossing a line and I'm sorry, I don't have any advice but...why were you so vague in the original comment?

Oh, because I was just trying to point out that there were times, in general, that a person could have the 'wat' reaction to something like someone having a fetish for a job, not specifically my case ...And because I've found that people tend to be a little less reasonable when religion gets mentioned.

...ah. Okay.

I think if anybody gets on your case just for mentioning that you have a religion, the rest of us would call them out on it.

Sounds like your friend is the jerk then. Keep telling her you are uncomfortable in talking about that and don't give her any leeway to continue a conversation. Hopefully she'll get the hint and stop bringing it up.

Eh, she's usually pretty nice outside of this. I do plan on telling her that my religion is off limits next time she brings it up - and pointedly ignoring any attempts after that.
