I actually do think there's a good chance Gillen is lying, or at least twisting the truth, because there's so much about this situation that doesn't make sense. I don't think Marvel would let him get away with obliterating a character like that and then bragging about it online. Gillen simply does not have the authority to make that kind of decision regarding a character's permanent fate.

And if the editors were in on it, why would they put Kid Loki in YA in the first place and then promote the hell of it? An "Older Loki in a kids body" plot would have a very short lifespan. YA readers who haven't read JiM would be as confused as all fuck, as (I'm guessing) a lot of JiM readers who aren't part of the fandom (because they've had no confirmation in canon of what's going on).

The ending of JiM 645 was ambiguous anyway, and Gillen's claims as to what happen contradict his own canon because we found out in TMT21 that Ikol was a delusion and not Older Loki anyway. Oh, and why would Ikol be claiming he wants to take advantage of Loki's good name when a) Loki doesn't have a good name because everyone still hates him and b) everytime it looked like Kid Loki was going back to evil Ikol was egging him on?

Nothing makes sense, and the whole thing just seems like a cheap publicity stunt to get people talking about YA.

No, what we found out in TMT21 was that Ikol existed only in Loki's head. That doesn't mean he's an illusion - old Loki even said "the part of me that you carried around in your head." All it means is that Ikol was never present in the physical world, and that only Loki could see him. It means that Ikol couldn't have physically given Mephisto the crown or betrayed him only when Loki said "hey, where's Ikol, hey did he just betray us?" - it means he was in reality betraying Loki the whole time.

The reason Ikol kept egging Loki on to be evil... well, if you're talking about his actions in the Terrorism Myth, that was pretty obviously in order to set up the artefact of doom that he'd already arranged to have the Teller send to Mephisto. If you're talking about the Everything Burns arc, it may have been because he was trying to use reverse psychology, since he knew Loki often started feeling doubts about things whenever Ikol expressed approval (although, then again, that never stopped him from doing those things anyway), or it may have been just another way of showing that Ikol was fundamentally incapable of not being horrible and taking glee in it.
