Shipping characters in old classics is the best. You know there's no fandom, but there's just the slightest, slightest chance that someone, centuries past and long dead, shipped them too.

Well, decades in this case. Siddhartha came out in 1922 (Hesse lived from 1877 to 1962).

... It's vaguely possible that people what shipped characters in that book when it first came out are still alive.

... They could be your gramma.

Happy imaginings. >_>

Sometimes you can find academics who still do.

imo you can probably slash one pairing in each Hesse novel. You can maybe even find fandom... He has had however a cult following among adolescents for some time...

yessssssss...

OP Here

I finished the book, and yeah my anticipation for the two was some of the highlights of reading this. I may or may not have felt upset about Siddhartha and Kamala because I liked Govinda more. There's always the downsides to slash shipping.

Now that you've finished this one, go read Hesse's "Narcissus & Goldmund." He put the OTP in the title just to make it easy for everyone.

Wish I had done that...

I hated that book. Haaaated it. Siddhartha was a spiritual Gary Stu and I wanted to punch him in the face for most of the book.

But even I saw the Siddartha/Govinda slash potential.

I haven't read Siddhartha yet, but it's Hermann Hesse. Zhe slash potential is probably there on purpose.
