Depression and loneliness are two themes that I love exploring in fic, but I have a really hard time finding ones that feel true to life but also true to the fandom/characters involved. So, can anybody rec me some well-done sadfic in the following fandoms? They can end on a high note, they can end on a low note, I just want to read something good, where if there is dialogue, it sounds like something real people would say.

Many fandoms to choose from:
Angel, Brothers & Sisters, Buffy, Castle, Everwood, Grimm, Harry Potter, Stargate SG-1/Atlantis, Star Wars (not big on prequel [or pre-prequel] eras or anything past the first few New Jedi Order books), Sherlock, Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Terminator franchise, The Outsiders, The West Wing,

I remember reading a fic in the Angel fandom from Wes' pov that was spot on for depression and feelings of low self worth and dealing with self injury. But I cannot for the life of me find it. :( If I do I'll come back and leave a link.

I'm hoping you find that link. :)

highly rec reading everything the author has written

I really love Come Down Off Your Throne by Fairywearsbootz (http://fairywearsbootz.livejournal.com/4428.html) and Across the Universe by Weird Wednesday (http://wednesdaynotes.livejournal.com/8439.html). Both are SPN fic and both are Dean/Cas (you didn't list pairings, so hopefully non-gen fic and that particular pairing are alright). I feel like the authors do a good job of conveying feelings of depression and loneliness - specifically after losing someone close to you - without being OTT angsty.

I'm sure I probably have a few more bookmarked, but these were the first ones that popped into my head. I hope you get some recs for your other fandoms as well!

I've got a couple Castle ones I've read recently, both Ryan-centric around the season four finale.

Oh, man. There's a harry potter fic I can't remember the name of but Percy tries to kill himself. Arthur finds him and reads his journal to find out why. It's basically partly because he's isolated from his family and partly because his muggle-born pregnant girlfriend is on the run during Deathly Hallows, loses the baby and then long-distance breaks up with him because the idea of being with him just makes her think of what she lost.

So it kind of jumps all over the place but is a deep well of sad. I wish I could remember what it was called.

Dude somebody better have some lonely!Pony Outsiders fic. Is there Outsiders fic? You'd think there would be given all the studly young men, built in angst and the general fandom love of incest.

I wrote Outsiders fic in my notebook when I was 10, but I don't think that counts. ~~Although seriously, I would be all over some Outsiders fic. Dally/Johnny/Pony OT3 4 lyfe.~~

i want to write for this fandom so badly but i'm afraid that i won't write them in-character enough...

Because you're not familiar enough with the source, or some other reason? Eh, watch the movie, extended anniversary edition if you can find it, maybe watch the commentary. Maybe read the book, and you should be fine. Couldn't be worse than what passes for fanfic in other fandoms.

I've read the book, but not recently. I'll definitely reread the book sometime soon.
