Talking about real actual lions? Two cubs born in the same pride at the same time would be at least half-siblings, because the male lion tends to kill cubs fathered by anyone else. Talking about magic Disney lions? They had different mothers and no one ever actually said who Nala's father was, so we can probably assume Nala's mother had a mail-order sperm donation or, I don't know, called a stork.

Simba and Nala are canonly not siblings, according to Disney.

I've since headcanoned that Sarafina is a refugee from another pride they took in because Mufasa is that awesome.

Simba and Nala? They don't count, they're lions and lion inbreeding's not exactly rare.

Yeah, I was talking about them. I thought lion inbreeding it was usual between father and daughter, not between siblings, since young male lions leave the pack.

I think there are some documented cases of brother/sister lion incest, but hey, there are documented cases of brother/sister incest in humans, too. They never said outright that Simba and Nala were related nor do they act like siblings, and since they're animals, it doesn't exactly feel like incest. Compare to, say, the Aristocats (cue Aristrocrats joke here) - the kittens had an established sibling relationship which felt like human sibling relationships, so it would be weird in that context.

Even as a child, that seemed like a cop-out. They resembled each other so much, so that he was just Scar's heir for I-forget-what-reason seemed kinda weird.

As an adult I now realize they were trying to avoid the incest, oh ho ho.

Oh yeah, total cop-out but that doesn't negate that it's still canon that Kovu and Kiara are not related.
