Well, for people who date, have a sex drive and/or are married, not having sex might be considered impractical.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'll give you the married, but what makes fucking any more practical? The bigger issue is, who gives her - or you - the right to judge someone else's sexual choices?

Saying something isn't practical isn't really judging. High heels, nice clothes, vintage cars, collectors items, ocean cruises. People do all sorts of impractical shit all the time, either because they want to or because their specific situations make is less impractical.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Telling people that they're impractical is totally a criticism.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
An issue concerning one's own body shouldn't be laid down along the same lines as high heels, nice clothes, vintage cars, collectors' items, and ocean cruises.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Why not? All of those things can concern one's on body as you say-They all share a possibility of harming you body as does sex. I watched the episode in question as am pretty sure she was stating HER opinion on the matter as all talk show host do. OP just seemed to get offended since that is not her views on the matter, no need to belittle others opinions on why it may or may not here

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Wait sorry how exactly is sex practical in a way those things are not? I guess if you take sex to mean het reproductive sex, then yes, it is practical as in necessary to some other goal/life in the broad sense. But sex itself? Uh... Unless you're trying to say that sex is absolutely necessary to a functional romantic relationship, which... no. So. Not really seeing your point here.

Also, when people call all those things "impractical," yes, they are often judging the person who owns and uses them.

But isn't that still a silly thing to say? Yes, it's impractical to be a version if you're having sex--it's impossible. But presumably if the person is a virgin they aren't having sex?

It's like saying being someone who's never eaten meat is impractical if you're eating a hamburger. If you're eating the hamburger you're not a person who's eaten meat.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
As a vegetarian, not eating meat is HELLA impractical. As a virgin at 23, not so impractical--actually quite easy. Maybe there's a tipping point when you're 25 that makes it the equivalent to voluntarily limiting yourself to one or two dishes on every menu ever, though. I wouldn't know.

...also it took me 20 minutes and a calculator to figure out how old I am. I'm kinda worried about that.

re: your last line

I've been there, almost your age orz

that's what happens when you don't think too much about your age any more...

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Generally happens when they finally give up putting the appropriate number of candles on the cake ;)

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Except from your example being a virgin isn't the impractical part, it's being in a romantic relationship without having sex part that's impractical - and not everyone is in a romantic relationship or wants to be. And that doesn't explain the random age cap she decided on.

People who date and have a sex drive don't have to have sex. It's not a law, there's no danger of their parts exploding or anything.

People who get married have, hopefully, talked about sex *before* getting married, as it's generally a part of being married.

I never thought I'd laugh at exploding bits

Thank you! On both those counts. People seem to overlook those...
