Tom Hiddleston is a dear, but his Loki apologist comments make me side-eye.

They're not really apologist, though?

I mean, okay, I haven't seen every single interview with him, but from the ones I have seen it seems he just finds his character to be sympathetic, and tries to play him as coming from a very human emotional place.

That... doesn't really equate to being an apologist? I've never seen him suggest anywhere that Loki is somehow not to blame for any of the horrible things he does.

Maybe apologist isn't the right word, but he definitely woobifies him. I think he said somewhere that he 'just needs a hug' or something? yeah.

different anon but apologist is the right word. hiddles redeems loki despite him being a complete villian but there's nothing wrong with liking someone BECAUSE they are a villian, there's no need to rectify a villianous character especially when they are canonically doomed to be a villian forever in any realm shape or form etc especially not with a HUG come on tom

sighs i just love villians 2 much

You can like a character for being a villain and still feel sympathy for them, js.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
sometimes i forget because the amount of times i've seen people ignoring massive parts of someone's character like when people romanticise serial killers and write 5,000 word articles explaining why someone isn't evil they're misunderstood etc etc (can't they be both)

i like a lot of villianous characters and feel sympathy for them too. i think that ppl forget that they do Bad Things and just erase it rather than seeing how it furthers their character development (especially with Loki)

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Was he serious when he said that, though? Because that seems more like something he'd say jokingly in an interview, and then half the fans latch onto it as 'proof' that their idea of Loki is valid.

Side-eye? In what way?
