I think a lot of his attitude is a reaction to how insane the community can be, so I sort of understand it, but it's really, really frustrating when you're trying to explain to him why a certain term has been used or why you're on an opposing side and he's coming across as if it doesn't matter what you say because he's already decided you're unreasonable. It just felt like the whole forum was very polarized and it was impossible to really get anything done. That, and the rules and guidelines were changing so much that I'd have to devote all of my free time to keeping up with them just so my edits didn't violate some new style guideline or rule, so I gave up. It wasn't all the administration's fault, a lot of their reactions were just an attempt to try to clean up the mess that the wiki and community had become, but it just got too stressful all around, IMO.
That being said, this is definitely a one-sided, biased opinion from me, so please take it with a grain of salt. It could be that I just tried to jump into the forums at a bad time, or something.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 02:21 am (UTC)(link)there are not enough mods
their rules/guidelines are too vague
their prime directive appears to be "eliminate people being dicks", which instead of resulting in a "safe and happy" environment like they wanted, resulted in people saying racist/pedo-apologist/rape-apologist things without cursing or attacking other users staying, where people directly criticizing the site's administration or the users getting admonished or banned for being "trolls", "dicks", etc.
the mods tend to disagree amongst themselves in which direction/policy to take the site
the owner is super paranoid of the something awful forum members and thinks every single constructive criticism comes from them and/or trolls
they are torn between wanting to be vaguely academic but not wanting analysis, wanting fun but not reigning in anyone until things get out of control, wanting to get rid of the trash but not wanting to offend their users or something
