But it's totally OK to ship nevermet ships as long you don't jump at people's throat screaming about how the ship is "sooo canon" while cramming a ton of headcanons into their brains.

pffft yeah, that I wouldn't do. I fully acknowledge that most of my ships aren't canon. (actually I can only think of one ship that isn't 100% canon that I would be particularly upset about if they were revealed to not be a couple.) To me part of the fun of shipping is ~*~possibilities~*~ so...

I'm not sure familiar with the particular pairings in question, but most people I know who ship pairings that have little to no contact in canon mostly ship them as crack pairings. You get the occasional person who's super serious about it, but mostly they just do it because it's fun and the more popular pairings in the fandom don't really do it for them. *shrug*
